The Golden State Warriors have abandoned their pursuit of Kevin Durant, as The Athletic reports the Phoenix Suns star showed little interest in a reunion.
Instead, NBA insider Marc Stein notes that Golden State is now targeting Miami Heat’s Jimmy Butler, with Dennis Schröder’s expiring contract as a key trade piece. Kevin O’Connor adds that talks for Butler are gaining momentum, though ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reports Butler is unwilling to sign an extension with the Warriors.
If Butler isn’t an option, ESPN’s Shams Charania states the team could pivot to Chicago Bulls center Nikola Vučević, who is averaging 19.7 points and 10.4 rebounds.
Currently sitting 10th in the Western Conference at 25-24, the Warriors need to make a move before Thursday’s trade deadline to stay competitive.
