In a recent talk show appearance, Angela Merkel, Germany’s former Chancellor from 2005 to 2021, shared insights not only on politics but also on her personal music preferences. Asked to choose between two pop stars, Taylor Swift and Germany’s top pop singer Helene Fischer, Merkel responded diplomatically, admitting, “Both are great, but for me – neither!” indicating she’s not a fan of Fischer.
The conversation took place on February 5 at the “One Hour of Time” event in Hamburg, where Merkel was asked various either-or questions, such as picking between political figures like Horst Seehofer and Markus Söder, and between risk and security.
When asked to choose between Green Party politician Robert Habeck and CDU leader Friedrich Merz, Merkel hesitated initially but eventually stated, “If it is now a question of Habeck or Merz, then I have to say: Merz.” This response, which reflected her faith in the CDU on economic matters, elicited laughter from the audience.
