Colombian superstar Shakira has been forced to cancel her highly anticipated concert in Lima after being hospitalized due to severe abdominal pain. The singer, currently on her world tour Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, expressed her deep regret in a heartfelt message to fans, stating that doctors have advised her against performing.

This event was set to be a special reunion between Shakira and her devoted Peruvian audience, who last saw her perform in the country in 2011 at the Lima Pop Festival. Back then, her life was vastly different—she was not yet a mother, and her relationship with Gerard Piqué had not yet become the subject of her music. After a 14-year wait, excitement had reached a fever pitch, with thousands eager to witness the global icon back on stage in Peru.

Rumors about Shakira’s health had begun circulating early Sunday morning, casting doubt on the fate of her performance at the National Stadium. The singer had only just arrived in Lima after thrilling crowds in Brazil with shows in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. Her arrival was met with a hero’s welcome at Jorge Chávez International Airport, where hundreds of fans gathered, followed by an outpouring of support outside her hotel. Shakira, ever the gracious star, took the time to greet admirers, sign autographs, and pose for photos, fueling anticipation for what was supposed to be another unforgettable night.

However, by Sunday afternoon, Shakira confirmed the unfortunate news via social media, explaining that her medical team had determined she was not in a condition to perform. “I am deeply saddened that I won’t be able to take the stage tonight. I was truly looking forward to reconnecting with my beloved Peruvian fans,” she wrote, prompting an outpouring of sympathy and concern online.

Despite the official announcement, some hopeful fans remained in long queues outside the stadium, refusing to abandon their dream of seeing Shakira perform. Others anxiously awaited updates from Teleticket, hoping for information about refunds or rescheduled dates. The uncertainty was particularly frustrating for those who had traveled long distances to attend the show.

The situation also casts doubt on Shakira’s second scheduled concert in Lima, as well as her upcoming tour dates in Colombia, where she is expected to perform in Barranquilla, Medellín, and Bogotá in the coming weeks.

Shakira assured fans that she is determined to reschedule and deliver the performance they deserve. “I hope to recover soon and return to the stage as soon as possible. My team is already working with the promoters to set a new date. Thank you for your understanding—I love you all very much,” she wrote.

As expected, social media exploded with reactions. While some expressed disappointment and concern for the singer’s health, others took a more humorous approach, jokingly blaming Peru’s famously rich and diverse cuisine for her ailment. Meanwhile, Nayomy Shakira, president of the Official Shakira Fan Club in Peru, urged fans to be understanding. “As true supporters, we know that health comes first,” she said.

Now, all eyes are on Shakira’s recovery and whether she will be able to resume her tour schedule as planned. For her loyal fans, the wait continues, but one thing is certain: whenever she returns, Peru will be ready to welcome her with open arms once again.
