Kultida Woods, the mother of golfing icon Tiger Woods, has passed away at the age of 80. She was a pivotal influence in her son’s life, shaping his discipline, resilience, and signature red attire on Sundays—an enduring symbol throughout his career.
Tiger paid tribute to his mother in an emotional statement, calling her “a force of nature” with an unshakable spirit. “She was my biggest fan, my greatest supporter—without her, none of my achievements would have been possible,” he shared.
Born in 1944 in Kanchanaburi, Thailand, Kultida was the youngest of four children. She later moved to Bangkok, where she worked as a civilian secretary at a U.S. Army base during the Vietnam War. It was there she met Earl Woods, a Green Beret, in 1966. The couple married in 1969 and eventually settled in California, where they welcomed their son, Eldrick “Tiger” Woods, in 1975.
While Earl was publicly vocal about their son’s golf career, Kultida took on a quieter yet crucial role. She ensured Tiger remained focused, driving him to tournaments, walking alongside him on the course, and instilling in him the work ethic that propelled him to greatness. She was also the one who encouraged him to wear red on Sundays, believing it to be his power color.
Beyond supporting her son, Kultida was deeply committed to philanthropy. She played an active role in the TGR Foundation, particularly advocating for projects benefiting communities in Thailand.
Despite her preference for a private life, Kultida was present at some of Tiger’s most defining moments, including his unforgettable 2019 Masters victory and his induction into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2022.
Reflecting on his mother’s impact, Tiger once said, “She taught me that nothing is ever given—it has to be earned. If you don’t put in the work, you don’t deserve the results.”
Kultida is survived by her son, Tiger Woods, and her grandchildren, Sam and Charlie. In his heartfelt farewell, Tiger expressed gratitude for the love and prayers his family has received, concluding simply, “Love you, Mom.”
