Musk’s vocal support for Germany’s far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party—known for its anti-migrant stance—has sparked backlash as the nation approaches federal elections. His appearance at an AfD event and endorsement of nationalist rhetoric may have alienated potential customers.
Beyond politics, the drop in Tesla sales could also stem from anticipation of the new Model Y release or inventory shortages following a year-end sales push. The trend extends beyond Germany, with Tesla registrations also falling 63% in France and 12% in the UK last month.
